Mark Blackwell, President


Mark is currently a third year energy management student at the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary. In his first year he worked collaboratively with the Institute for Sustainable Energy, Environment & Economy (ISEEE) to form the ISEEE Students' Association and is currently entering his fourth term as President of the organization. Through this organization Mark was the Founder for the 1st International Energy Summit - and was excited to have such a passionate and dedicated group of students working to ensure the conference moved forward. For his passion and determination in the area of energy and the environment he earned himself Canada's Top 20 Under 20 Award and was also recognized as the Haskayne School of Business's 'Most Outstanding Non-Graduating Student' in 2008 and 2009. Mark also was the recipient of the Inaugural University of Calgary Future Alumni Award. Mark just finished an internship at Enbridge Inc. within the Emerging and Alternative Technologies Group as a Business Analyst. In his spare time Mark enjoys hitting up the links for a round of golf and has a special interest in investing, architecture and traveling.

Sean Porta, Executive Vice President


Sean is once again pleased to be a part of the ISEEESA executive team, and is looking forward to what promises to be the organizations best year yet. Sean is a fourth year finance major at the Haskayne School of Business, and is heavily involved in a number of organizations. In addition to being the Executive Vice President of ISEEESA, Sean is also a Fund Manager for the Calgary Portfolio Management Trust (CPMT), where he helps manages the ~$340,000 real-money portfolio of equities. Sean is responsible for covering the materials sector of the Canadian economy, an endeavour which has proved to be both challenging and invaluable. He was also chosen for the University of Calgary's 2010 Inter-Collegiate Business Competition (ICBC) team, as one of two students on the finance team. Lastly, Sean leads a charity event on campus called 'Top Guns,' an annual week-long event in which student volunteers from Haskayne's Commerce Undergraduate Society dress up in naval uniforms and sell aviator style sunglasses to students in support of the fight against breast cancer. In three years, Top Guns has raised over $23,800 for breast cancer charity. This past summer, Sean worked as an Investment Banking Analyst with Scotia Capital in Calgary, and will be returning there full-time upon graduation.

Sam Tsui, VP Operations & Finance


Samuel Tsui is a third year finance major at the Haskayne School of Business. Prior to taking on the position of Vice President of Finance and Operations, Samuel spent the previous year as the Director of Finance for ISEEESA. He is excited to build on his past experience in the club and take it one step further. His school involvement is not limited to ISEEESA. Samuel is also returning for a second year as a Commerce Undergraduate Society consultant where he participates in numerous fundraising and charity events. He spent his last summer working for Clearstream Banking in Hong Kong and has a career aspiration to work in the Asia Pacific region post graduation.

Kali Taylor, VP Events

Kali Taylor is excited to be joining ISEEESA as VP Events this year and looks forward to bringing engaging, educational and exciting events to students interested in energy. Kali is a fourth year Energy Management Commerce student and works for Husky Energy in the Midstream Assets and New Ventures department. Kali is no stranger to event planning being the Director Sponsorship for the Business Day Conference in 2007-08 and most recently Chairing the planning committee of the International Student Energy Summit (www.studentenergy.org) which brought over 350 students from 30 different countries to Calgary in June 2009. Kali also competes on the Haskayne Marketing team for the Inter Collegiate Business Competition. After graduation in June, Kali plans to continue working in the energy industry focusing on carbon strategy, emerging technologies and renewable fuel standards.

Robyn Seetal, VP External Relations


Robyn is excited to be back on the ISEEESA executive team after returning from her exchange in Singapore last year. Robyn is in her final year of accounting at the Haskayne School of Business and has her sights set on persusing her CA designation in 2010. Dedicated to community involvement, Robyn is constantly finding ways to give back to the community. Aside from taking on the role of Vice President of External Relations for ISEEESA, Robyn has been an executive member of the Sikh Students Association (SSA) for the past two years. With the SSA team Robyn has spearheaded fundraisers for the Mustard Seed and organized week long, campus wide, Sikh awareness events. This year, as the President of EILTE Calgary, Robyn will serve as the Conference Chair for a youth leadership conference focused on youth empowerment and the 'Power of Thought'. For the past six years Robyn has been the lead program coordinator for her spiritual group through which she helps to organize up to six day long spiritual retreats involving 400 delegates from around the world. Robyn has also been playing basketball for a number of years and is currently a proud member of the University of Calgary's Co-ed intramural division 'A' Heat Check basketball team. With her growing interest in sustainability, Robyn is looking forward to another year of learning as a member of ISEEESA executive team.

Courtney Hanley, VP Marketing


Courtney is a fourth year International Business and Political Science student, and it is her first year with ISEEESA. She is eager to be a part of the executive team, leading the Marketing group through significant overhaul and rebranding of the organization. Courtney joins the club with previous experience as the Director of Global Leadership with Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship (ACE), and in the energy regulatory industry, having worked with the Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) for three years. She intends to pursue a career in law after graduation, eventually focusing on International Trade or Environmental Law. In the meantime, she keeps herself busy with school, work, dance, volleyball, and of course, leading the Marketing team through all the work ahead of us! Courtney feels fortunate to work with such an enthusiastic and driven team, and looks forward to the year ahead!

Sam Jovanovic, VP Academic


Sam Jovanovic is a fourth year Commerce and Economics student, majoring in Energy Management and Applied Energy Economics. She has been a member of the ISEEESA team since the 2008 school year, holding the position of VP Events prior to assuming the VP Academic role. Sam loves being a member of this club, because the members share the perspective that solving the energy crisis, is a multi-faceted issue that requires proactive thinking and action to make a difference. She values the opportunity to work with like-minded students, while learning from researchers and industry professionals in the industry. The Environment, Energy, and Economy Development Program is an initiative she and members from last year's executive team brought to fruition and is excited to continue to develop. Joining ISEEESA has played an extremely positive role in her academic career as it helped her recognize her passion for the industry and particular areas of interest. Sam has been a member of the Alberta Solar Decathlon Team, an international competition sponsored by the US Department of Energy and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory to build, design, and operate a solar powered home. Currently interning in the Environment and Energy section at the Canadian Embassy in Washington D.C., Sam feels fortunate to remain a member of the ISEEESA team while pursuing future career aspirations and is excited about another great year with an amazing team.

Alison Robertson, Director Gala Dinner


Alison has joined ISEEESA this year as a director for the 2010 Gala Dinner. She is a fourth year Mechanical Engineering student at the Schulich School of Engineering, and is currently working for Nexen Inc. for her internship term. For the next year, Alison will be working in the Drilling and Completions department at Nexen, and will then return to the University of Calgary for her fifth and final year of Mechanical Engineering. Over the last three years, Alison has enjoyed being part of various organizations, including the Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Student's Society, where she was VP Finance, and the Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race 2009 Team, where she was involved with the logistics team.

Lauren Rooney, Director External Relations


Lauren is a third year finance and environmental science major at the University of Calgary, and is heavily involved in a number of organizations. In addition to being the Director External Relations of ISEEESA, she is also the 2009 Alberta Solar Decathlon (ASD) Logistics Coordinator and ASD 2011 Business Team Lead. This role involves her overseeing the marketing, communications, sponsorship, and curriculum integration portfolios, which fall within the business teams responsibilities. She is also currently coordinating the logistics for the 40+ team members who will attend the Solar Decathlon Competition in Washington D.C. this October (2009). Lauren is also a Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE), Project Manager for the Code of Ethics Project. Through this Project, Lauren strives to relay the importance of ethics to students and the corporate world by engaging them in creating a Code of Ethics of their own, and considering how it can be applied to their lives. Lauren's involvement in all these projects has been both stimulating and gratifying. Any spare time Lauren has she spends traveling, snowboarding or playing some form of sports. This past spring/summer Lauren spent five months backpacking around Asia.

Camille Wilder, Director Gala Dinner


This is Camille's second year volunteering with ISEEESA. In her first year, she was a consultant for the events portfolio. Most of her work last year went towards helping organize the annual gala dinner. This year she is one of two directors for the gala dinner that is occurring in february of 2010. Camille has her resort and hotel diploma from Thompson Rivers University (Kamloops BC) and hopes that from her experiences through school while she was in the resort and hotel program and her work experience with events will be very useful in organizing a fantastic gala dinner for the students and sponsors of this event. In the past Camille has also volunteered with the Crohn's and Colitis foundation of Canada. She is in her last year of school at U of C majoring in Energy Management and is looking forward to a great year with ISEEESA!

Delon Saks, Director Operations


Delon is entering his first year with ISEEESA as Director Internal and is looking forward to promoting the awareness of the club on campus. Delon is a third year student in the Schulich School of Engineering Mechanical Engineering Program specializing in the Energy and the Environment, and also plays an active role on ISEEESA's executive team. Delon recently took part in an Engineering Study Abroad Program on the island of Crete and is hoping to take part in the engineering internship program following his third year. Delon is excited about this upcoming year with ISEEESA and hopes the club has it's best year yet.

Mehdi Mehrabani-Yeganeh, Director Experiential Learning Tours


Mehdi has recently transferred to the University of Calgary as a third year finance student from Mount Royal University. Mehdi has been traveling his whole life and has resided in 5 cities and three continents in twenty years. This year will be Mehdi's first year as part of ISEEESA and he has been appointed as the new Director of Experiential Learning tour. Mehdi is responsible for putting together educational energy tour's for University of Calgary students. In the past, ISEEESA has been successful in putting together two tours. This year, Mehdi not only wants to expand the number of experiential tours, but also reach out to regions outside of Alberta. Mehdi is confident that this year will be a very successful year for ISEEESA, and is excited to work with such a dedicated group of students.

James Song, Director E & E Trek


James is currently enrolled in the Chemical engineering program at the Schulich School of Engineering. James is involved with ISEEESA as a director of energy and environment trek and University of Calgary Energy Council. James will be planning two upcoming events for E&E Trek and support event chair for UCEC Professional Skills day in Jan 2010

Sam Woods, Director Finance


Sam is a fourth year accounting student currently on a cooperative learning term as a student accountant with Talisman Energy Inc. Sam was an ISEEESA consultant last year, in which he was actively involved in the 2009 Gala Dinner, and the first annual Energy Development Program (EDP). Next summer, he is hoping to intern at one of the big four accounting firms, on route to getting his Chartered Accounting designation. As the incoming Director of Finance Sam will involve himself in all the different areas of ISEEESA, and keep sound financials. He looks forward to the upcoming year!

Pasley Weeks, Director Academic


This is Pasley's first year on ISEEESA and she is very excited about contributing to the organization. She is the director of academic with in the executive team and is working hard to put on the E3D program, which is a program that informs students about Energy, the economy and the environment. Pasley is in second year civil engineering with the environment and energy specialization. She worked as an operator for Spectra energy over the summer and will be returning there for next summer to work during there turn around. Pasley plans to work in environmental engineering companies after graduation where she will contribute to making the world a cleaner more efficient place to live

Lara van der Breggen, Director Marketing


Lara is looking forward to her first year on the executive team of ISEEESA as the director of marketing. She is enthusiastic to partake in the rebranding of the organization as well as to contribute to promotional efforts to assert the message of social responsibility that is so important in today's economy. Lara is a third year student of International Business, and is pursuing further education in law following graduation from the University of Calgary in 2011. She is very intrigued by the nature of law and cannot wait to dive into a busy career in environmental, humanitarian or commercial law. Lara has been an active volunteer in the SUVS beginning in her first year of university and is also a protégé of the Haskayne mentorship program. Aside from school, Lara likes to have fun and keep busy in work, water polo, snowboarding, piano, and avidly following the Flames' pursuit of the Stanley Cup! Lara was drawn to ISEEESA because she wants to be an influential member of a growing movement towards clean and sustainable development, and work to inspire others to follow. She is eager to work alongside such incredible, forward-thinking people and cannot wait to see what ISEEESA will do next!
